GIPSA Action Alert from member Vaughn Meyer

TODAY Representative Mike Conaway (R-TX) will offer an amendment to the 2013 Farm Bill in the House Agriculture Committee to prevent USDA-GIPSA from implementing rules to enforce the Packers and Stockyards Act.  Without these long-hard fought rules we stand to loose another 400,000 producers in the next decade similar to the past 10 years.  Our cow herd has shrunk to 1950’s levels and our nation’s food supply is currently out sourced at alarming levels for a nation that was once the bread basket of the world.  If our House of Representatives cave in to corporate agriculture interests and defeat the long and hard fought GIPSA Rules;  family agriculture will cease to exist and our next generations will become mere serfs in our industry.

The good news is with everyone’s help we can claim another victory for family agriculture.

Please call U.S. Representative Kristi Noem and ask her to vote against any effort to block USDA GIPSA from issuing rules to restore competition in our U.S. livestock markets. Kristi Noem’s Washington D.C. office and staff may be reached at 202-225-2801. Other Representatives maybe contacted by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and asking for their name.

This is an urgent notice as the amendment to prevent the implementation of USDA GIPSA will be introduced TODAY (Wednesday 5/15/13) so please call immediately and share this with your fellow producers.
