Tony Helland

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD and have grown up loving the outdoors. Urban bicycling, kayaking, and creating alternative media are important hobbies of mine. I also love playing and performing music and have been able to perform in a number of acts out of Sioux Falls. During the past couple of months I’ve been working with DRA in the fight against the Keystone XL pipeline and have loved every minute of it!

I attended the University of South Dakota, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in international studies and German. During this time I was fortunate to spend a year studying at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. Since graduating I’ve worked in direct support at a school for students with intellectual disabilities. This field has been a blessing; assisting me in gaining patience and understanding.

Blogging the legislature in this state is a new endeavor for me and I’m looking forward to it! During the past couple sessions I really took an interest in staying informed; attending legislative coffees and following the news as well as other blogs. Areas of interest to me are energy, environmental protection, and education – to name a few. Let’s see what this new session brings about!
